Police are calling for common sense measures to deter crime after a video caught one car owner fighting off four would-be thieves. Authorities are still searching for the suspects after the man went to the hospital with injuries associated with the altercation. Neighbors are understandably shaken up after the incident.

In a video obtained by local news outlets, a man manages to fight to save his car from four people. What starts as one person trying to take a red Infiniti turns into a fight between the four suspects and the singular car owner. The struggle continues until an unseen woman screams “I’m calling the cops!”

At that moment all four attackers flee the scene in the black Mercedes Benz that they rolled up in. Somewhat surprisingly, none of the attackers thought to drive off with the car at the center of their activities while the conflict ensued. Local police addressed the incident itself along with common sense tactics to deter theft.

Warning: some viewers may find the following video disturbing

“Thank God that he wasn’t seriously hurt. We’re seeing a lot of these incidents throughout the state and the country that people are intervening, and the suspect may have a weapon,” Rocky Hill Police Sgt. Jeffrey Foss-Rugan said.

“We have a lot of tools at our disposal that we could try to follow up to try to locate these suspects and I know it’s very difficult when you see people break into your cars,” he continued.

Foss-Rugan’s advice to people is simple: “We’ve got to keep our garages locked. We have to keep the doors locked. We have to keep the valuables out of the car.”

“It’s so close to home. It’s really frustrating,” a neighbor said. Another person who lives nearby said that theft is something she’s dealt with: “In the past, we’ve had our car broken into in our driveway several times, that is just such a violation.”

Police have yet to catch the suspects but the investigation is ongoing. We’ll update this story if we hear more.
