Ineos Grenadier starts at $71,500; deliveries in Q4
The Ineos Grenadier, a new rugged BMW-powered off-road vehicle made in France, will make its North American debut late this year priced higher in base model trim than its chief rival, the Land Rover Defender 110.
Ineos will offer the five-seat Grenadier, a body-on-frame SUV, in three models: base, Trialmaster and Fieldmaster. The base model will be priced at $73,100, while the Trialmaster and Fieldmaster will start at $80,790. Prices include $1,600 for shipping.
The least expensive five-seat Land Rover 110, the S model, starts at $62,075, including the $1,475 destination charge.
The Grenadier is the direct result of Jaguar Land Rover refusing to sell the tooling and rights to the classic Land Rover Defender, which was discontinued in 2016, to British businessman Jim Ratcliffe, CEO of Ineos, a chemical company.
Trialmaster adds a host of off-road gear including electrically activated front and rear locking differentials, raised air intake and BF Goodrich all-terrain tires. Fieldmaster sports a leather interior, safari windows and heated seats.
Ineos plans to open its order books May 31. The company’s U.S. retail network will be announced in August.
