An automobile auction in Lauderdale Lakes, Florida, became the scene of a traumatic event on Wednesday, as a vehicle being moved from the lot ran into eight people, causing serious injuries to at least two.
The crash occurred in the morning as a vehicle was being moved during a tightly packed event at a South Florida Auto Auctions location. Reports suggest that the vehicle’s brakes failed as it was being relocated, causing it to run into people in the vicinity, as well as another vehicle.
Although the vehicle was described as being “slow-moving” by police, the incident reportedly caused victims to go flying in the air, and caused significant enough damage to a white Fiat 500L, that its airbags deployed.

“I saw a man flying, and that man fell on his head and the car that hit him rolled him over,” a witness told Local10. “The car continued hitting another guy that was there at the auction.”
Of the eight victims, seven were taken to hospital, with two being designated as trauma alert patients—meaning they had suffered “significant injury causing great bodily harm,” reports Automotive News. One of the victims is said to have refused treatment.

It is unclear if the driver of the vehicle, described as an older man, was among the injured. It is not known at this time if he will be cited for the incident, but it is the Broward Sheriff’s Office that reports that the brakes on the vehicle failed.
The sheriff’s office continues to investigate the incident that witnesses called traumatizing.
“We almost lost some lives today,” a witness said. “Thank God, hopefully they are OK because they got hit pretty bad.”
